Shon Anne CookShon Anne Cook

“Shon is an excellent advocate for her clients and not only advises them on the best course of action but takes their needs and opinions into account at all times.  She is very “down to earth.”

Holly Leifer

Shon focuses her practice on family law.  This encompasses divorce, custody, parenting time, support, jurisdictional cases, spousal support, enforcement of divorce judgments, adoption, qualified domestic relations orders and mediation.  Shon’s practice extends from as far South as Allegan County to as far North as Manistee.  She has represented thousands of clients through Western Michigan.  Her colleagues, clients and Judges describe her as hard-working, intelligent and client-centered.  Shon fights hard for her clients and treats all of her clients with dignity and respect during some of the most emotional and difficult times that the client will experience.

Shon is originally from Iowa, where she graduated with Honors from Wartburg College.  At her Alma matter, she was voted outstanding senior in political science and psychology.  She also was named an NCAA Academic All-American softball pitcher two years in a row.

Shon attend Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska on a full scholarship.  She wrote for law review and was President of the Environmental Law Society.  Shon graduated in 1994 from law school and has been working in Western Michigan since that time.

Shon’s experience spans corporate litigation, first amendment litigation and insurance defense.  She has done extensive criminal litigation and assisted in contractual negotiations for many clients.  Shon’s knowledge in these other areas of law, make her a well-rounded and ideal attorney for clients that have multiple issues in family law matters that may include family businesses, corporate interests, real estate holdings or other significant financial issues.  Shon’s background in psychology also makes her well-versed in understanding family law dynamics and the emotional turmoil involved in family law matters.

Shon’s strong litigation skills are balanced with her mediation skills.  Shon is a trained family law mediator and received her certificate from the State Bar of Michigan.  She actively mediates for the local court systems, her clients and on a referral basis.

Client Testimonials

“Shon and her staff are very personable.  Shon explains things very well.”  “Shon is very knowledgeable and willing to matter of factly fight for her clients.”

Chad Uptigrove

“As a business owner, I appreciated Shon’s direct approach to my need for legal counsel.  She asked me what I knew the facts to be.  She asked me what I knew the law to be.  She asked me what I wanted to do.  She then explained what the legal precedents were (and were not!).  She then recommended a course of action.  Then she asked me again what I wanted to do.  I took Shon’s advice, but only in part.  I have only two regrets.  The first regret is that I should have taken Shon’s advice sooner.  The second regret is that I should have taken Shon’s advice in full.  Both would have saved me money.” Dan Vollink, First Stone Realty

'Shon is a very competent attorney who will fight hard for her clients to the very end and actually cares about the outcome of a case.'
