Whenever we get hit along the lakeshore with the “lake effect”, I try to remind myself to stay positive and focused on the job at hand. It is easy to get bogged down with the cloudy days, but it is always important to continue our hard work on behalf of our clients and realize that we really do make a difference in how we treat people and the work that we do here.
Appearing in Court is scary if you are not part of the regular scene. To ease a client’s mind, I try to give an idea of what is coming when we begin discussing potential motions and trials. Often, we don’t even see the Judge, as the issue may be resolved before the hearing, or the Judge will give us some guidance in his office, without having to argue in the courtroom. When we do need to argue our case, it is very important that our clients write questions or comments on a piece of paper to the attorney and remain as quiet as possible. A client should never interrupt the Judge or respond to the opposing party, except through contact with the attorney. Judges are generally good listeners and simply want to resolve the issue quickly and with some common sense. While it can be a scary place, the Courtroom is really just a place to discuss the problem and find a solution.
It is exciting to be part of a new year at our law firm. We have resolved to provide an even better level of service, and to work harder to meet the needs of our clients. We are always excited to hear the suggestions of our clients on how to improve and provide the best legal representation in our area.
